The long day is over and the day is giving way
The evening of silence is filling your mind
When all has been done, said all that’s to say
Are you left empty-handed at the end of the day?
Relentlessly striving for reach each our goal
A job or position, a hand to hold
Running and reaching and stretching to see
A life more than existence, a purpose that frees
The long week is over and what do you have?
An empty heart and reaching hands
For though we seek to fill this life
The world alone could never satsify
When all has been done, said all that’s to say
Who holds your heart at the end of the day?
The years will keep turning under the sun
But works on this earth have vain outcomes
Unless they are bound to more than this earth
What purpose has life, what meaning has birth?
What purpose can be but from our Creator?
What goal can we reach without Christ our Saviour?
The Alpha, Omega our beginning and end
Gives purpose and meaning this world cannot rend
The long day is over and you’re seeking a way
To leave you in peace at the end of the day
